It's kind of funny actually because the first thing I thought of as soon as the meeting started was "oh look, new toys!"

Thanks script_nurse! The meeting went well. So well in fact that I think I just made a new friend. He said he'd even be willing to teach me how to use the equipment. It's like going to film school for free. Anyway, I appreciate the advice as usual. I hope to get a project going soon and when I do I'll post about it in the Current Projects sections. Thanks again!

I don't think everyone will have an expectation that you have to know everything. If you're the filmmaker, that doesn't mean you're an expert at doing every job related to making a film. I would enlist his aid and ask if he knows someone who is really good at running the board that he could recommend, especially since you won't normally have the time to attend to the details of post-production sound personally. This approach often gets people on your side, which is good.

That's what I'm hoping for. All I'm really worried about is whether or not I'm going to sound like an idiot when he shows me around the facility on Thursday. I'm not sure if the guy plans on running it himself or if he's expecting me to know how to run a fully functional audio/video mixing/editing studio. It's a university studio and not a large one, but substantial and useful none the less. I'm also worried that if he thinks I don't know what I'm doing --and I really don't know the first thing using such equipment-- that he's going to tell me to get lost.

Now I understand. You'll likely meet some very talented people as well.

I'm hoping to use the facility to create short films and (hopfully) a feature length film at some point in the near future. More than anything I'm looking to meet more like-minded individuals who share a common passion for film making. Basically I just want to pursue the indie market. Maybe get some exposure by posting our work on the internet.

What do you intend to use the facilities for?

I recently recieved a call from a fellow at the local University where I live. He called to let me know, as per an add I issued, that I could use sound studio and recording rooms for my independent endevours. We'll be meeting next to week for a tour of the facility and...well...I guess i just don't want to sound like idiot. What sort of questions should I ask him about the facility? Do you think he'll change his mind if I tell him I've never been within twenty feet of a recording studio? Are there any concerns, legal, creative or otherwise that I should be concerened with? Thanks guys!
