Need Advice on English peerage titles for script

As an Englishman I would suggest that you go ahead and use the proper peerage titles with your characters. If you create your own I feel that you might lose the reader as they would have to work it all out. I don't see any reason why you can't use the proper titles, it's done all of the time.

Thanks much.  I was worried about titles being linked to land holdings and getting it all correct.

Hey all,

I'm new here and was hoping for a little advice.  I'm writing an Austen-esque script and was having some trouble with titles (duke, earl, marquess, etc) for some of the characters.

I've done a little bit of research on what the titles are, the heirarchy and such.  I'm just concerned about using actual peerage titles.  I'd rather make up fictional ones.  Is this done? 

Any insight would be great.
