On Sunday, we expect to finish the rough draft of BORN AGAIN: Second Chance to Raise Hell ... then the real work begins!  We think we can have a polished, first draft done by the end of July.

I am having more fun than I thought I would in writing BORN AGAIN: Second Chance to Raise Hell.  We're about half way through and because it takes place in a Catholic school run by nuns, we're having great fun dreaming up ways to kill nuns, students the young and old.  It's hard to find inventive ways to kill people, I've found ... but that's part of the fun.

Well, there's power tools, low explosives, caustic chemicals, fire, flood, various sharp items used as projectiles, various dull items used as projectiles (with consequently higher velocities), heavy things dropping down, things falling, things squishing, things stretching, things grinding, electricity, high-voltage electricity, radiation, lasers, microwaves...
And woodchippers.

Hey, that is fun!

That's kind of what it reads like to me. With Willie Nelson involved, though, I'm sure they've got name recognition to get the movies they're making distributed.

I haven't read the entire site yet. Looks promising though. I've bookmarked their site. Any company making a movie in 2010 with a tentative title, "The Dry Gulch Kid" at least has guts. Sounds like something from the late 40s or early 50s.

Although this strikes me as a bunch of high school kids decide they wanna make movies ... these "kids" are famous ... and they're doing westerns.

Yes, I'm seeing a few more, mostly TV westerns. The remake of 3:10 to Yuma a while back with Russell Crowe was okay but I think the original was better.

I'm in the process of writing one right now, while Dante and another of my 'epics,' titled Moody make the rounds with a number of companies that accept email submissions of loglines and very brief synopses. Moody is far and away my favorite but loglines aren't my forte.

In any case, I'm taking a break and writing an old fashioned shoot 'em up type western that Rex Allen, Joel McRea, maybe Steve McQueen and Randolph Scott would like. No doubt an exercise in futility, but I gotta write at least a couple of hours a day. I think it's called obsession, or maybe addiction.

Way to go, Don. It's proof that persistence and sticking with it can pay off. I know too many writers with good scripts, both novel or screenplay, who when rejected once or twice will give up.

Everyone should remember that Stephen King was rejected numerous times. John Grisham's first novel was rejected by 17 publishers.

Let your script make the rounds of every production company and/or every agent who will read it. This, of course, is for those who don't self produce. I've got no idea how that works, and no desire to produce my own garbage.

LOL, padnar. Believe me, the first drafts of most of my work is pretty bad. In fact, it's more than pretty bad. I think I've mentioned here before that I'm not a writer, I'm a re-writer. After a couple of re-writes, the odor is almost bearable. By the 5th or 6th, it's better. On the other hand, I've produced first drafts that weren't too bad.

I call my work garbage because a lot of what I'm interested and enjoy writing, most people don't care about any more. Westerns. I love writing westerns - the old fashioned kind that Gary Cooper, Joel McRea and John Wayne used to star in.
