Update ...

Betty White is reading the script and a copy is on its way to Alan Alda for the role of Winston Dupré, Designer to the Stars.

Big meeting with Fred Whitehouse, partner in The Glick Agency (writers, directors and actors). He mentioned he needed a good, but unique, family film for a group of investors from the east, so MUD ALLEY MIDGETS was mentioned, and he asked by hadn't he read it? He got the copy this afternoon.

RESULT OF MEETING:  Fred has taken on the HASBEEN HOTEL project and us as clients. It was a good day in tinsel town, indeed.

Excellent news and good advice.

Work hard and be prepared for "that" opportunity.

A word to the wise ...

After Ed Asner read HASBEEN HOTEL ... he immediately asked, "What else ya got?" My partner pitches him on MUD ALLEY MIDGETS (currently under option). Ed says, "I wanna read it." So, he has that, too.

... and ... a casting director who has read both keeps asking about THE GILDED PIANO, which we're half-way through the first draft. Logline:

An elderly woman befriends a musically gifted savant and they work together to stop a developer from leveling her home to make way for a shopping mall.

Moral of Story:  It's better to have three good screenplays at the ready because you just never know.

Gyaah!!  Too cool, Don.  On a side note, Ed Asner is going to be doing a few episodes of my wife's cousin's Teen TV Drama "Broken Road" out of Topeka Kansas.  Corey Feldman is going to direct a few episodes as well.

The writing is tight, concise, and flows perfectly.  The characters are well drawn, and I love the way you handled the tourists at the beginning.  Then the introduction of Tiffany allowed you to further uncover the identities and backgrounds of your Hasbeen Hotel regulars.  I truly hope you get your dream cast for this.  I know I'll be buying ticket!!

We have to set-up a meeting with the production company ... and that can't happen until after August 1st as key people are out of town.

Do you have any time line as to when the production will be green lighted?

Here's an update on HASBEEN HOTEL ...

Edward Asner is attached to star as C.B. Schwartz, the retired film director. He's hot right now because of Disney's UP.

Doris Roberts ("Everybody Loves Raymond's" mom) is attached to play Agnes Oliver, retired bit player (the role originally written for Mary Wickes).

Betty White should get the script this week for the role of Polly Winsom, the animal lover. Yes, the part WAS written for her, but we never dreamed she would consider playing the part. We'll see if she likes it, too.

In a recent meeting with my partner, Ed said four times that this should be at Hallmark. Apparently, someone heard him because rumor has it that Daniel Petrie Jr. is being approached to direct and his mother's company, Petrie Productions, is being approached to produce. Guess where they have a production deal ... yup ... Hallmark.

Altogether, there are roles for about nearly 20 older actors. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it were an all-star cast made up of actors we haven't seen on the screen in years? That's kind of my dream with this one. There are so many GOOD actors who just don't have an opportunity to act simply because they're a little older.

The weird thing is ... I have no clue how people find out about the script. It's called "heat" and it's a very good thing.

Well, we'll see what happens. There's still a long road to go ... and I've been looking around, but I still don't see a check with my name on it.

I love Wanda, but she's too young. Think Ruby Dee or Cicely Tyson.

Just finished reading the first 13 pages  Smiley

I kept thinking: the "The Golden Girls" do "Hotel"! (I loved that show for some reason! Maybe is was Brolin who did it for me!) I still watch reruns of the Golden Girls!

I can see where this, with the right actors will be hilarious. Wanda Sykes (an older Wanda) is also someone I "hear" as Bessie...
