UPDATE

MUD ALLEY MIDGETS and BORN AGAIN funding has been delayed due to the death of one of the investor group's key partners.  We are told things are still progressing, although delayed.

Out of the blue, casting director-turned-producer Barbara Divisek called and asked for a lunch meeting with my partner (they've known each other 30 years).  She's in post production on a $30M feature called To Have and to Hold directed by Ray Bengston.  She told him to bring everything we've got, especially HASBEEN HOTEL ...

She says she wants to do this as her next picture.

We've exhaled as far as the New Zealand producer is concerned.  No word about anything means nothing is happening.

Our L.A. producer had a very successful meeting with investors in Florida.  It seems the investors like the scripts and have increased the budgets from $1.5M to $2M each.  Said producer leaves for Tibet this Thursday, so the deal can't be put together until mid-March.

Holding our breath as two different producers are pitching the same two scripts to investors in Florida and New Zealand this week.  The business side of screenwriting is a bit nerve wracking.

We wrote BORN AGAIN last year, essentially April through June... about 3 months from story concept through the final rewrite.  In July it was listed on InkTip and drew a lot of interest, but no sale.  The current interest came through our kids' baseball script MUD ALLEY MIDGETS.  Each are budgeted at about $1M or so.

And the plot thickens ... Producer Annie Molner is going to Florida to meet with some investors there regarding BORN AGAIN.

I love the concept posters! Now all we need to do is see these movies on the big/small screen and we can all rejoice.  Smiley

... and of course, there are other meetings.  I guess that's the good news ... there ARE meetings ... and there's now verbal approval for the budget of both MUD ALLEY MIDGETS and BORN AGAIN and both are likely to be shot in Los Angeles due to the abundant availability of talent and relatively cheap locations.  We still need to get to the part where someone writes me a check that clears.

UPDATE

Apparently, funding meetings are progressing along, which is encouraging.  We whipped up a couple of concept posters to help provide some visual aid.  The "big" meeting is January 13th ... Friday the Thirteenth ... fitting, eh?

Attached below are the two concept posters.

UPDATE ...

Astron Media of Christchurch, New Zealand met with my writing partner and another producer in Los Angeles 10 days ago regarding their interest in MUD ALLEY MIDGETS, HASBEEN HOTEL and BORN AGAIN: Second Chance to Raise Hell.  Word came today that the first two rounds of investor meetings have gone well.  They've asked us to review and critique a feature fantasy script based on an online game.

A staff writer from Martin Lawrence's sitcom (currently on hiatus between season 3 and 4) has joined us to kick the comedy up a few notches in our HOLYWOOD script, so we're pretty excited about that.

We've started work on an UNTITLED CHRISTMAS STORY ... think Hallmark or Lifetime.
Well, laws'a me...
Things move, don't they?

Good fortune to you!

Cheers!

A producing team is taking HASBEEN HOTEL to the American Film Market (AFM) in Los Angeles, November 2-9, 2011.  This is where producers try to make deals for global distribution of their movies.  This convention has launched more than 10,000 movies, so we're pretty excited that we'll be there, at least in script form.  Attached is the marketing concept materials we prepared at the producers' request, who rated it as the best of the half dozen films they're taking to the show ... so I thought I'd share it with you.

HASBEEN HOTEL was considered by Marcy Gross of Gross-Weston Productions, producers of dozens of movies for various cable channels. She wrote:

"Well I read the script over the weekend & it is quite charming. But in the long run it is a movie about older people & unfortunately, there is no market for these kinds of projects.  If at some future time, there is a cable company that caters to an older crowd, we will notify you and re-visit your script, but for now it is a pass."

I kinda thought the Oprah Winfrey Network was for the older crowd ...

Psstt!  It's not until Friday, so ... you're early.
Oh... well... I have to have that chronosynclastic infundibulum recalibrated... the flux tensor adjustment keeps slipping.

Well, happy now, and each and every until Friday!

Cheers!
