when writing a biographical account

The answer is ... it all depends. Mostly, it depends on you. It matters very much if you want to make an accurate biographical movie about this person. If you want more of a "based on the life of" story, then you can take more artistic license. If he was a well-known public figure, you can't deviate too much. Most writers don't don't biographical scripts for these reasons, it's so limiting.

Hey, I had this idea to write a screenplay based on this person's life, an anarchist who protested all over the US and Mexico as well, a pretty amazing person. Anyway, I was wondering how true to life is it important to make the screenplay? I mean I want it to be true to his life and respectful (he was assassinated) but should his neighborhood as a child be made to look exactly as it did in real life? During research should I use actual phrases and such that he may have used in conversations with friends and such? I was just wondering because as I am doing research I am wondering all of this and it is throwing me off. Thanks a bunch!
