Ouch! Sounds like a pain in the old butt to me. What kind of director DOESN'T know to stay behind the camera? Like you said, at least you're getting paid for your work. I don't think I could put up with those conditions if it were volunteer work. My heart goes out to you Al.

Well, well, well...

Does the term "Mongolian clusterf&#k" bring any images to mind?

The "director"/executive producer/writer doesn't know his arse from a smoking hole in the ground; he has no idea when he's in camera range or not, and the DP and I have to keep telling him, "If you don't want to be on camera, you have to be behind me."

The underlying book he wrote (and wrote the music for) is basically porno; it was pulled from an erotic horror site, IIRC, for being too over the line.

We shot two weekends at a commercial building where, it turns out, we didn't have permits or permission; the "director" made a behind-the-back deal with the receptionist.  And this person is a Detroit police officer on disability leave, f'Gawdsake!

Well, at least he's been paying me the fees I negotiated...

Well, tomorrow (Friday the 13th) will be the start of a second weekend shooting a music video for a local guy.  I'm second unit camera/director, first assistant camera for principal unit, gaffing lights, and working a jib boom.
Good footage for my reel...

The title is "Smoke House Curse"; it's both a standalone music video and a demo/trailer for a proposed feature.  More details when I find out more...

Cheers!
