Indeed ... welcome!

Sage advice.  Everyone around here has been where you are, so we all understand.

Writers are a different kind of people.  Magicians.  They conjure up illusions and take us places we otherwise could never go ... into the past and to the future ... with people and events we could not experience.  Our tools are our imaginations and words we put to paper.  Arrange the words in one order and you get a novel and in another you get a play.  As a carpenter uses the right tool to build something, we use the right words to build our stories.  It 's all about finding the right words to put in the right order.

I suggest that you shift your focus for perfection to perfecting the story.  Don't worry so much about using the perfect word.  I have found that the words take care of themselves when you remain focused on the story. The words are all interchangeable on a whim.  The story is not.  Perfect the story and the words will line up in due time.

I wish you success ... and if we can help, let us know.

Hi, venusia.

Chuck58 is right.  rmbrewer is right.  Don (our host with the most) is right.

One of the important rules, aside from the one Chuck quoted, is this:

Apply seat of pants to seat of chair.

Another one, from ScriptGirl (check her out on YouTube: http://www.scriptgirl.net/)

You can't sell it if you don't write it!

Keep plugging!

Welcome venusia and spooner.

rmbrewer is correct. We don't bite. The forum has been pretty quiet lately, but many of us check in regularly. Post what you like. Check some of our work and give a brutal and honest critique, or just drop in and say hello and tell us what you're up to.

Venusia, I read a great quote from someone, "Don't get it right, get it written."

Once it's written, then work toward perfection. I used to try to get each sentence absolutely perfect before putting it to paper. Then, I expanded to trying to perfect each paragraph, then chapter, and on and on. I was never finishing anything.

Now, I put everything on paper. When it's done, I put it away and work on something else. After a few weeks or month, I'll go back and begin editing. Each time I do, I confront a sad reality. I'm not a writer; I'm a rewriter.

Just write. Write every day, even if it's only a page. Regardless of whether it's perfect or not, put it on paper.

First, welcome to ScriptNurse! You'll like it here and I promise we don't bite. Wink Second, put the pen to paper and just let the idea's flow however they want to. If you wanna write then write. Trust me, in the end you'll thank yourself for the experiences you take with you.

If you have a story idea and would like some help with it, don't be afraid to ask. You can send me an email anytime. Maybe I can help you get the creative juices flowing.

Hi!
I'm 18 and I'd like to become a writer.
I've written some, but most of my stories are stuck in my head and I just can't get it in writing.
I'm a perfectionist, which might be the reason why I seldom finish anything.
I hope some of you here can help me to get something out of my ideas.

The pen is mightier than the sword, but only if the one with the pen knows how to express herself/himself.
