A work is AUTOMATICALLY covered by copyright.  The difficulty comes in proving WHEN the copyright begins, hence the registration process.  The ultimate copyright is via the Library of Congress Copyright Office, but it costs more and does take some time.

Is registering the same thing as the copyright or do u have to do that separately?
once you register you get an e-mail from them about the number and than you can quote that number when you are selling the script . Unless you copywright the Production houses wont accept to sell, nor Trigger or other sites will accept the scripts for reviews .

I believe you will be notified of the registration number at the time you register online ... and you'll get an official certificate of registration mailed to you afterward.

Go to www.wga.org

This is the official web site for Writers Guild America West. You can register your scripts online or through snail mail. I believe it costs $20 or $25 to register, but it's quick and easy and you should recieve your certificate of registration within a month.

Please note that you do not need your certificate to prove registration as the script is put into the data bank within 48 hours of registration.

Enjoy!

Hello, I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I have almost completed my first screenplay and I actually have an opportunity to pitch to a production company. I would like to have it registered before I meet with them. How do I go about doing that?
