“Nobody knows anything.”  — William Goldman

Write your best stuff.  You're not producing a smorgasbord.  Write at least 5-6 scripts.  Promote them yourself ... InkTip is a great place to start.

Try to get a line on an agent and when you've got a deal, call the agent in.

If you rely on your agent to sell your work, you'll be a waiter for the rest of your life.

YOUR job is to sell yourself and your work.
YOUR AGENT'S job is to negotiate the best deal for you after you sell it.
YOUR AGENT "may" be able to get your work to people they know from past business dealings, but don't rely on it.

I can't say they're wrong. Then again, I can't they are right either. It sounds like solid info to me. The most important thing for any screenwriter to have are scripts! (duh, rnbrewer) But seriously, often times the first script you sell is NOT the first one you show. You want to have a few finished scripts to your name. You'll probably hear something like, "Yeah, this is good, but what else have you got?" If you can't answer this question, then chances are you won't make it. It's good to have multiple scripts and I guess exploring other genres isn't a bad idea either. And I think that was the point they were trying to make on those web sites.

I'm seeing on other sites, that you need 3 screen plays to get started with an agent.  What types of screen plays do they need to be?  1 site says you should have a sitcom/drama between 30 and 60 pages.  A low budget Independent film with 90 to 100 pages.  And finally a high budget film with 120 to 140 pages.  Does this sound right?
