Hello there. Just wanted to introduce myself and say that this site really packs an informative punch. I've always been fascinated with movies and writing, and a screenplay has always been at the top of my to do list. I tried writing a screenplay a few years ago but had trouble getting past the first quarter of act II. I skipped the whole prewriting process.
Last week I had this idea for a movie that I really wanted to write - vastly different from my previous attempt. Again I skipped the pre-writing practice and dove right in. I churned out about 50 pages in the last week with enough scenes on the brain to easily pump out another 20. After reading this site and some other information on structure I went back and re-read everything I had so far. I actually impressed myself - it was pretty good. So I did what any noob writer would do...... I scrapped it.
Ok, so I didn't entirely scrap it. I realized that this story really *is* something I wanted to write, and write correctly. So I stopped dead in my tracks, and took the story back to square one. I restructured my idea, changed my main character, changed the story perspective, and removed my clever introduction. Using the great tutorials on this site, as well as my old copies of books from Lew Hunter & Syd Field (that I never read) I came up with all my main plot points, my character backgrounds, and my scene skelaton. I made sure not to make any decision based off of scenes I had already written and loved. Luckily though, with a little rework, I will get to keep some of them

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that this site is great and I will be here often soaking in what I can as I progress this story. Thanks for the great information!!
