I have had an interest in writing since childhood. Actually, I like stories. Hearing them, telling them, and watching them. As a martial artist I was able to combine my knowledge with my writing and publish two articles in Inside Kung Fu magazine. Yes, I'm a literary genius! Really though, having success there showed me that I can "do something" with my writing. And so, I was on my way to writing and trying to earn money doing it, when a friend said screenplays are the "writing of now". Novels and such are a thing of the past. After thinking about his words I realize that he is indeed correct as movies are where our populations spends their time and many conversations on the subject.
Also, people that know me, know that I have seen ALOT of movies(and the beautiful thing is I am not fat). My love of film really hit home back in the early 90's when I got my own VCR. Man I spent alot of money on movies.
I am not certain what it takes to truly pull off getting a script up on the screen... skill, luck, knowing someone in the business, I do know that when i spoke with my friend it was the dollar amounts he spoke of (compared to the article thing) that got my attention. Well, I went full bore, finished a script, sent it to a contest, and well, learned humility.
That review basically crushed me as I put my heart and soul into it. As many may or may not have experienced, it really was a draining experience. So I quit as heartily as I had begun. It kept haunting me but i easily squashed the fire, time and again.
So why am I back? For all the right reasons I think! First, i have little care for the cash. I TRULY would really like to see my work on film and I now see it as art, a hobby if you will, rather than future sustenance as I had previously.
I have three topics that I am working, two mentally and one actually in the works.
The first, in the works, is about a witch that uses "feminine wiles" to enhance her power/lifeforce.
The second uses our overpopulated prison system to overthrow our government.
The third is a pirate film based on true events.
