Well, I've read the first issue of the "new" Script magazine.
{Notice, if you will, the parentheses are gone around the "i" in the title, and the Final Draft icon - the ruffled pages - is a part of the new logo.}

It's gone from saddle-stapled to perfect-bound, and there are some more pages, I think, but I can't say the content has improved.

Many of the familiar columnists are gone, and I'm not entirely sure of their replacements yet.

I'll keep my eye on it, and let you all know...

This is a surprise. Final Draft agreed to sponsor our Mini-Movie Screenwriting Contest until they found out that their nemesis, Movie Magic Screenwriter from Write Bros. (my writing software of choice), was also a sponsor. In a rather seething tone, they pulled their support.

To my surprise, when I looked up Scr(i)pt Magazine's website {http://www.scriptmag.com/} the other day, I saw the billboarded notice that Forum Publications, the publishers of said magazine, had been purchased by Final Draft.

Whether this is an evolving trend or not, it's still a bit of a shock to the system... a magazine that was ostensibly neutral in matters of what you use to write your script bought out by the "big name" in the screenwriting software industry.

Leads one to think what editorial changes are in store, doesn't it?  Will all contributors need to swear allegiance to Syd Field before being published?  Will ads for the competition be accepted?  Will the name of the magazine mutate to Final Draft Scr(i)pt, or some such nonsense?

Time will tell, I suppose... but never soon enough.
