Hello, I am currently working on an adaptation from a Barbara Erskine novel, House of Echoes. I wrote to her before Christmas, stating my interest in having a go at writing a screenplay from her book. I honestly did not think that it would go any further than a waste paper basket with a faint smile or chuckle. Imagine my delight and excitement when she showed a keen interest and allowed me to have a go so once Christmas was out of the way, I set to. I am re reading it for the third time now as well as other related preparation using a screenwriting software. Just goes to show what can happen. Her agent has suggested that I write a couple of scenes.
Well, good for you! Nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say...
If they like what you do, are they willing to put forth contractual guarantees on it, or is this just a way to get free work out of somebody?
(Yes, I sound cynical. Much as I hate it, you have to; it's a badass world out there, sometimes, and I follow my step-grandpa's advice when he was teaching me poker when I'd visit him in the VA hospital... Trust everybody, but
always cut the cards.)
Keep us all posted!
