Just for the heck of it, I downloaded the latest version of Celtx, 2.7 and have been using it for a couple of days. I'm liking it so far.

It won't replace MM6, and I'm not sure about the typeset thingy that formats and paginates your script. What if you're using a computer that doesn't have Internet access? There are some, including my desktop. I took it offline just because I could sit there for an hour, intending to write, and spend all my time online posting on forums. Yeah, it's called discipline, and I obviously have little of it.

Still, I have Celtx on my laptop and consider it quite a nice program now, much improved since V1 that I last used.

Celtx is what I use, and it is a very handy program.  You can take chunks of your script off to the side, play with them in what they call the scratchpad, then put them back in.  It's quite handy.  Also, it auto-formats for several different kind of scripts, and exports to PDF.  All this for free!  Which fits my budget perfectly!!

Sounds like I need to upgrade my copy.

Good.  I need something a bit more 'proper' than Word.  All the post-formatting stuff's been getting right on my wick.

By the way, Celtx is now up to Version 1.0 - they've gone the whole nine yards and made breakdowns, locked pages, production planning features, and other new features.

Cheers!

Good idea and done. As far as I'm concerned, Celtx is a nice little program and might work fine for others. If I weren't stuck on MMS2000 and a Word template - Falstaff 5 - that really seems to do pretty nicely once you're used to it, I might consider Celtx.

For those with Word, this is the link to Falstaff.  http://www.falstaff.net/products/fal-dot.shtml

You might post a note on their forum and see if there's a fix.

I've played with Celtx for 10 pages and noted only two problems which may or may not matter.

First, when printing, it isn't the dark black print I'm used to with MMS2000. That may or may not matter.

Second, when formatted for printing, at least in my case with the latest version .997, some pages printed with more than 2 1/2 inches of blank space at the bottom. It occurred with 3 pages of the 10 I printed with Celtx and all were very noticeable (to me) when flipping from one page to the next.

I tried Cinergy, Final Draft, and Script Maker Word template in addition to my MMS for the same 10 pages. All printed in nice, dark black font and none left the large margin at the bottom.

Other than the above, which I haven't seen any comment on in the Celtx forum, I was very impressed with Celtx. I'm sure the font thing could be resolved by learning more about the program. The other, I don't know.

This FREE, open source screenwriting software for Windows, Linux or Mac OS is available at www.celtx.com

Here's a little preview and if you go to YouTube.com and search on Celtx, you'll find a bunch of videos showing all of its many features.
