New MACs suck! I used the same laptop for 4 years. The battery died with no replacement so I went with a new one or really my wife did and just hog it! Grin
My G4 was a tank! Never broke down....This thing is a turd.
They are gone. Went to data recovery but the price ($1500) to TRY and recover was too much. The Mac guy said there was zero reading on the old drive anyways. Live and learn.

Sounds like the hard disk has died - if you are really stuck and have a few bob, there are companies that can attempt data retrieval from failed drives

So I'm typing away on the trusty Mac. 12 years using Mac and never a problem. Until today.
The hard drive starts making ticking and popping noises. And then everything fades to black.
It died.
I lost seven features and a pilot plus the first two episodes I was writting.  Angry Lost everything really but those were the most important.
Yes, I have hard copies but I'll still have to transcribe them back into Movie Magic. It was a dumb mistake but what I do other than learn.
New Macs with the Intel chip aren't like the old ones. They these ones break.
Moral of the story: ALWAYS backup your work on a disc or removeable drive.
