I think the internet is changing the need to live there. The net is such a useful tool in getting stuff out there. Either in competitions, sites such as here and others.

Without the ability to make contacts and get feedback and pitch your work virtually, I would agree it would be a lot harder to get people to read your work.

The key is getting yourself known and as Don said, that depends on your stories/hard work and a pinch of luck.

So far I have found the ability for the hard work. Now just need the killer story and luck,

Just read about a screenwriter from Dublin (Ireland) who has penned a script that Nic Cage is starring in. http://www.iftn.ie/?act1=record&aid=73&rid=4280767&tpl=archnews&only=1

Dublin is a long way from Hollywood. But guess if you have great work, the distance no longer matters.....

I am only about 6 hours away so I guess I could drive there if need be. Smiley

What Don said is true BUT it sure helps when they call and ask if you can make it over to the studio tomorrow... Grin
L.A sucks but so do alot of other places. At least we don't get snow.   Tongue

Thanks, Don!  That's very, very, very good to hear!!!  I wouldn't mind going to Hollywood from time to time but it's really good to know I don't absolutely have to move there.

The general consensus is that it's handy but not essential to be in Los Angeles. The truth is that GREAT stories are in demand whether they were written in a one room studio apartment overlooking the Hollywood Freeway or in a tent in the middle of the Sahara Desert.

Oh, one more question I forgot to include in my earlier post.  Do I really need to be in Los Angeles if I want my scripts made into a Hollywood movie?  I've read posts elsewhere saying so. Sad  While I can probably drive/fly there every now and then, I'd prefer to stay where I am now.  Does phone/email alone work?  Or do I absolutely need to have face-to-face meetings with people?

Thanks again,
Ever
