Thanks, Al.  Your mention of Save the Cat! is good enough.  It was one of the books that I had reserved at my local library and is now actually ready for pick-up.  If I like the book, I might get the software.  Although, I believe, it was that book that got the "too rigid, too strict with the rules" comment from a reader on Amazon.  We'll see how I'll like it.

Oh, one feature I would like my story software to have is a database of ideas for character traits, possible scenes/actions/scenarios, etc.  I know that's probably cheating but I think they would come in handy whenever I'm stuck.  But it probably falls more under screenplay, not the story, if that makes sense.

Thanks again,
Ever

Ever,

There are as many brands of "story structure software" as there are developers to write them.

It's a totally subjective decision whether to use some, or which one to choose.

I either use plain 3X5 index cards, a la Blake Snyder, or I try to outline with a legal pad and a pen.

(BTW, Blake Snyder now has story structure software out, too... it's in the "Story Structure Software" section of the main menu, under Save the Cat! -- the title of his book, which I have, and found quite helpful.)

All the while, I'd been focusing on screenwriting software.  I had no clue there was this other breed called "story structure software".

Does a screenwriter absolutely need one?  Or is it highly recommended?  Which one is the most popular?  I know, popularity doesn't necessarily mean quality.  I just want to have an idea as to which one(s) to look at first.  Or if you have recommendations, I would love to hear them.

Thanks,
Ever
