That's only because it was messy.  Grin

Thanks for the response.

I suppose ultimately it comes down to clarity. I've tried the nested speechmark approach in my own screenplay and it just seemed a mess!

It's one, big quote:

FRED
Says here... "I asked Angelina Jolie where she got those lovely lips from? On sale at Wal-Mart, she said."

That's how I'd do it and I don't know that there's a "rule" for this, either.

Song lyrics are ALWAYS in all CAPS.

Here's an interesting one...

At one point, my character quotes out loud a magazine interview. However, the interview itself also contains quotes, which leads to me the question... how should I handle this?

Possible solutions...

A)

FRED
(reading from magazine article)
I asked Angelina Jolie where she got those lovely lips from? "On sale in Walmart." she said.

B)

FRED
"I asked Angelina Jolie where she got those lovely lips from? 'On sale in Walmart.' she said."

...or some other way.

On a side note, which type of single speechmarks should you use in a screenplay anyway? The vertical one or the one that slants slightly?

(I'm just sitting at home thinking of wierd questions to ask you guys. Smiley )
