What exactly IS a "writing sample?"
Gather 'round, class, 'cause Uncle Al's going to go pedantic for a trice...

The "writing sample" is the script your agent circulates among Those Who Can Buy to show how well you can write.  It's up to Those to decide if the way you write is What They Want for their assignment script.

It's a "six of one, half dozen of the other" situation.

Class dismissed...

Ah, "writing sample".  I knew I wasn't calling it right. Smiley

As far as I know, the only time a script used as a "writing sample" was filmed was when the writer gains enough clout to get the script made.
I could be wrong.  I often am.

I would hate for my first script to become just a sample script.  I am hoping it won't be but from what I've read, that's what usually happens.  Do samples forever stay samples?  Or do some eventually get resurrected?  How often does that happen?

Thanks,
Ever
