You know, when it comes to film, music, writing, or any other artistic endeavors, it's all connected.  I've been there...wherever it's been.
Ah, down near Benton Harbor the secret identity of legendary hero ChickenMan, New Buffalo, Michigan City and LaPorte, Indiana... a region I do happen to know.  (Did some time at a boarding school in Rolling Prairie.)

The original script, in my view, is a good thing to concentrate on at this point while the other project percolates.  Assuming it does.  Love stories are usually good, but if you can spin the story in a new and original direction, it would have more of a "hook", I think...

Do what you can, as well as what you must, and if you have troubles, we're just keystrokes away...

Cheers!

Thanks people for the hospitality. In answer to your questions, Al I live in SW MI in an area we fondly know as Michiana, a pleasant place to live but not exactly the film capital of the Midwest. My second feature actually takes place mostly in your neck of the woods, rural Oakland and Genesee Counties to be exact. Don, I don't have a strong impression that the person who told me that really understands what it means. I believe she is just someone who inherited the estate and may have some enthusiasm for the idea. She does have a lawyer in the So. Cal. area who seems to be familiar with the industry but how serious the whole prospect is I have no idea. And thank you Sharry for your kind words. Having done some composing as a musician I understand what you say about the interrelatedness of the artistic process. Making film and music are both often like putting the pieces of a puzzle together with timing, transitions, beginnings and endings, drama and more. Excellent point.

I have been in contact with the copyright owner who says they want to "push it in Hollywood" whatever that means.

They like it enough that they are willing to go out on a limb and "talk it up" and "shop it around town" in an effort to see if anyone has an interest in buying it. Did the novelist have an agent? Is he willing to represent the screenplay? He'll likely know who was interested in the genre.

Greetings and hallucinations!

Where at in Michigan?  I'm just outside Detroit.

It gets interesting how things change as you go, doesn't it?

Anyway, there's lots of helpful people here. Stranger things have happened.

I'm 56, live in small town Michigan and have been a classical, jazz and folk musician most of my life. Way back in the 70s I did get a degree in film from Columbia College of Chicago but that fell by the wayside when I opted for music. I've always enjoyed writing and in the last couple years have discovered the screenplay format is something that particularly works for me. I've written 2 features. One is an adaptation of a published science fantasy novel by a deceased writer for which I have been in contact with the copyright owner who says they want to "push it in Hollywood" whatever that means. The second is a love story initially inspired by events from my youth but went in a totally fictional direction. I'm here to get some tips and maybe I can even help somebody else.

Anyway, howdy to all.
