Welcome to Script Nurse, one of the best sites on the web for aspiring writers, young and old.
I couldn't agree more.  And I don't even get paid for these endorsements.

Wishing you all the best in your career. And, don't get discouraged. Great things come to those that wait.....and trust.....and believe.

Lee left out that one important ingredient... work.  You have to put in the chair time... apply seat of pants to seat of chair.

Cheers!

Matt Stevens,

Welcome to Script Nurse, one of the best sites on the web for aspiring writers, young and old. I'm a fellow Brooklynite, from Crown Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville and East New York. I "escaped" to Staten Island, and left New York for San Diego in 1990. I now call St. Louis home, but I've never lost my love of the Big Sour Apple (smile).

Wishing you all the best in your career. And, don't get discouraged. Great things come to those that wait.....and trust.....and believe.

A stop-gap might be an enterainment attorney. I've used Paul S. Levine out in L.A. (he used to be with Warners) and specializes in book deals, but he DOES know a lot of people. Maybe he can see if your old deal is revivable.

An agent is not essential, but it increases the odds by about a hundred fold.

Actually, an agent is not absolutely essential.
Just keep plugging, it'll happen for you.
Is that New York, New York you're from? Just curious, I was born upstate, about halfway between Albany and Binghamton.
Welcome, and good luck!

Well folks, I'm new to this forum, but now new to writing. I'm in my 30's and have been writing since I was in my teens, but have barely made a dent. Have had a couple options that ultimately went nowhere.

Back in 2000 I finally found an agent and he had a deal for me on one of my scripts in just a matter if months. The studio was a big one, but during contract negotiations the studio had another turkey, lost a boatload of money and the studio head was fired. My agent then had a stroke!

Needless to say, me deal was dropped because the studio head had signed off on it. No agent meant no access to the studio and that was that. No money. Bye bye 6 figure deal.

Since then it has been a struggle. I've been unable unable to get any agent to even read my work! I actually gave up on trying to find an agent about three years ago while concentrating on ghost-writing a biography, which is nearing completion. I also completed a very dark comedy script that blew away the few people who read it. One was a French producer, but he has no ability to help me finding an agent and is wrapped up in his own projects. I know what I hagve in this script is something really special, but so what if no one will read it? Sad

So I really truly want to somehow find agent. I wish there was a secret, but last time it was just dumb luck.

Anyway, I hope to chat with you and learn a few things.

By the way, I also am writing some comic books.
