Went with using the mobile text like a character. Rather than use on screen and then dialogue.

Entered and waiting on deadline to pass....

That's how I would probably handle the issue, assuming there were numerous text messages.  I don't think too many people are going to look at you cross-eyed for that.

I don't see a problem with that.  Beats having to describe every text in more words than necessary.

I am working on a short where the lead gets several text messages on a phone.

Is it OK to have the phone behave like a character with dilaogue

i.e.               mobile phone text
          be very careful.

Or use the basic: The text on the mobile phone reads "be very careful"
