My primary project just now is more of the same.  I've signed an option agreement for my indy dramedy spec with a production company on the Universal lot.  They're seeking financing to produce it themselves but wouldn't be adverse to sell it to a third party if the money was right.  Every week we have one or two conference calls over revisions, I go away and supply them what they ask for, and then we do it again.  Thankfully, they 'get' the script (it's a bit out of the mainstream in style and message), and they've been working with me to preserve all the elements that should remain inviolable, while polishing wherever we can.  Their requests have been tapering off and becoming much more finely targeted, so I'm almost there.  Yay!

I have a couple other back burned projects that I'd like to get back to when this finishes up.  I've worked up about 40 pages of a Mafia script that I've gotten cold on, but there all sorts of other ideas kicking around in my brain, all begging for release... Wink

I've been doing what writers do best...writing. At least that's what I've been trying to do. I've got one project past the fourth draft stage, and now I'm just working out the ending. Something's just not right about it. Also working on a dream project of mine right now. It's a zombie script that I've been putting off for a while. I know zombies are old news now days but it's a story I just had to write. Other than that I've teamed up with a buddy of mine to write comedy spoof set in outerspace.

The good kind (Airplane, Space Balls) or the back kind ('Something' Movie)?

Working on a script, an adaptation from one of my novels that, if it keeps going the way it is, will barely resemble the novel.

My problem is, the novel was written first person through the eyes of the protagonist (a not very nice guy). I'm having to create new characters and scenes that aren't in the book. In fact, the first few pages are about the only things true to the novel.

Given that my writing partner on a future project got a grant for his own project, I'll consider that a breakthrough.  Plus he mentioned our idea and mentioned my name at a pitch.

good to hear you are keeping at it.

All work and no breakthrough(s) at my end. But never boring I guess...

I'm working on scripts for three other people, as well as polishing up four of my own.
I've got one that may sell, wouldn't that be a kick?

been working on three shorts and a treatment for a adaption (hopefully).

One short is a comedy thriller (for a compo). Another a horror for a potential protect. The final a thriller for another possible.

just before that entered three shorts (war/drama, horror and thriller) into a compo in england.

Out of that working on two more ideas in shorts. Just for practice.

Reading this.I think I need a break...

Working on the second draft of The Wall Department.  3 pages in, so far.  Although I may tweak the opening scenes to fit one or two of the characters better.

I fancy tweaking the concept once more before getting too far into it.  I think about this thing way too much but I think I've nailed it down, now.

It just seems so quiet here lately.  Is anyone currently working on a project?  If so, what?

I just finished another short for this month's Movie Poet monthly contest, and wrapping up my research/interviews for a feature length project which is set in the Great Depression.  Hopefully it won't be too depressing.....

Also, not to prod here, but hey Don, how's the judging going so far.... I know you've got your hands full, but any updates?

Thanks,

Dan
