Like he said use

FADE TO BLACK

it is not entirely wrong to use

CUT TO:

INT. DARKNESS -- DREAM

of course I probably wouldn't recomend that route.

Thanks Al,

I was kind of leaning towards that direction.  I just thought it would read a bit weird as:  FADE IN:  BLACK SCREEN

Isn't that an oxymoron though?

 Cheesy

Actually, that's kind of amusing. . .

Uncle Al has the answer, as usual. This is the easiest, simplest and most elegant way to do what you want — and is the easiest for the reader to read, which is important.

I need to depict a scene of total blackness, as in a dream.  No real location or time, just blackness.  I'm thinking I need to Scene it as a dream, however, it really doesn't take place in any particular location.  That's about the best way that I can explain it.

About all I can think of is:

BLACK SCREEN

Bla bla bla...

Just the shot description should do it, I think, if the other parts of the scene explain (as you indicate in what I didn't quote).

Just my two kopeks worth...

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on a project that is somewhat abstract and I need some help coming up with a Scene heading.

I need to depict a scene of total blackness, as in a dream.  No real location or time, just blackness.  I'm thinking I need to Scene it as a dream, however, it really doesn't take place in any particular location.  That's about the best way that I can explain it.

I really can't use FADE TO BLACK, as once I establish total darkness, my character and special effects descriptions will take over to fill the void.

Any suggestions?
