This tells me that he had no real interest in our contest or helping an aspiring writer, but that his motives were entirely self-serving.

Assuming yew are telling the truth (and I really have no reason at all to believe yew aren't), this one line, more than anything else, is influencing my decision as to whether or not to buy MMS.

So long, FD.

"To my taste, ScreenForge is a little too simple."

To my taste, simple is good.

I'm not quite sure why you feel FD is not "professional." It seems more than adequate to me. Of course, you may have issues I know nothing about.
Why don't you give ScreenForge a shot? They allow you a trial period for as long as you like, (I used mine two years before I purchased) and when it is time to buy, the cost is entirely within reason. ($45.00US)
www.apotheosispictures.com will get you to where you need to be to check out this fine screenwriting program.
And no, I receive no payment or other perks from them for pimping their product. I just flat-ass like it.

To my taste, ScreenForge is a little too simple. I have installed a trial version of MMS and it makes a good first impression. It's a pity though, that Sophocles has vanished...
I don't like FD, because CollaboWriter never works, because the page-locking mode is not elaborate, and because the input logic is not structure-oriented, but maybe it gets better with FD version 8.

There is considerable speculation that something dire has happened to Tim Sheehan, creator of SOPHOCLES ... http://cdeemer2007.blogspot.com/2008/04/sophocles-again.html

Does anyone know what happened to Sophocles? Last time I checked on their site a new, professional version was being developed. I can remember something of a 2007 Beta test...

Looks like Final Draft is gaining more and more the upper hand, which is really bad, because there's not much competition left, and I don't regard Final Draft as being a professional software.

I was snooping around looking for Sophocles, figuring maybe the site had been moved and came upon a forum about Sophocles. According to that forum, which I didn't bookmark, Sophocles seems to be gone, as in either Kaput or sold and discontinued. There are a few very unhappy people there who purchased it and now can't get their license. I can't say whether that's fact or not, but I'm avoiding it until I learn otherwise.

Indeed, FD is one of the top packages and is the standard at many studios and production companies. Their bitter rival is Movie Magic Screenwriter. In fact, the president of Final Draft told me that he would support our screenwriting contest until he found out that MMS was supporting it and then he summarily dumped us unceremoniously. You would think that if his product was as good as others say it is, he would not be afraid to go head-to-head, but apparently that's not the case. This tells me that he had no real interest in our contest or helping an aspiring writer, but that his motives were entirely self-serving.
