There are lots of articles on lighting out there.  (I've written one or two myself, but I'll spare you.)  One of the best places to learn something that I've seen is the site for Scott Spears, director of photography for many projects including the recently released DVD feature Horrors of War.

Also, Peter John Ross, writer, director, editor, and regular columnist does he eat his bran flakes every day? has articles and tutorials on lighting on his site.

As far as scripts, I received a ton of 3-5 pagers submitted for the Mini-Movie Screenwriting Contest. Perhaps one of these with a polish rewrite or two might be pressed into service. Many writers would contribute their short script for a writing credit.

Google is your friend, my friend. You'll find TONS of information on simple lighting if you search for it. Be sure to include do-it-yourself (DIY) sites as well.

I know this is a screenwriting forum and all, but I have a slightly irregular question that I'm hoping someone can help me with. My partner and I would like to start experimenting with short film. We have a camera (just a digital handycam with built-in hard drive) and computer with a simple editing program. What I need help with is lighting. How the heck do I create simple lighting and what sort of materials do I need?

On a script related note, where can I find some good examples of shot films (prefferably their scripts)? My idea is fitting some where in the realm of five to six minutes.
