I've bookmarked this site. The page that opened hit me. It's exactly what I read in a book about novel writing by Lawrence Block in a chapter titled Second Things First. Block recommends that, depending on the book (screenplay), you begin with action, to grab the reader, and then start the book.

Mickey Spillane said the same thing in different words, "The first chapter sells the book. The last chapter sells the next book."
