Great Dialogue 1.0

If you've EVER wanted examples of great dialogue in a quick and easy to use format, this is it. Smartly organized into comedy, drama or both categories, you can find a dialogue reference relating to just about any subject you can imagine. I must confess, I spent the first hour or so with this new program just reading some of the examples and laughing out loud at classic lines I'd forgotten and chuckling over ones I'd never heard of before. There are quotes from movies, TV and literature, making this a handy reference for just about any writer of movies, television, plays or novels.

A wonderful feature of this software is the fact that practically everything is all on one screen for easy reference or flipping back and forth between examples when comparing quotes and writing styles ... and it is FAST! Searches are virtually instant.

Across the top of the screen are the basic navigation buttons.

Simply select whether you want quotes from comedies, dramas or both to be listed. Next, enter the keyword or subject of your search in the search box and click the Find button.

A handy reference list of the available keywords is in the Keyword List. Once you've entered your search keyword and clicked the Find button, a list of the search results is displayed in the Search Results box on the left of the screen. Some of the lists can be long and you can easily scroll up and down the list to find more specific descriptions for your particular situation. When you click on an entry in the search results list, the corresponding information is displayed in the large display area on the right.

It includes the title, a little backgrounder (when appropriate) or Scene Setup, the dialogue itself, the original writer and any reference notes. This little feature is especially handy because it specifies the writing technique used. You can click the Techniques button to jump to the HUGE list of dialogue writing techniques to get more detailed information on how the technique works and examples of where it has been applied.

The real goodies in this program almost hidden -- THE LIST as I call it. There are 101 different dialogue writing techniques explained with detailed analysis and examples. It shows you WHY the dialogue works. This is a treaure trove of solid information and worth the price of the software all by itself, in my opinion.

CONCLUSION

There are remarkably few tools available to help hone, improve and inspire dialogue writing. Not only is Great Dialogue helpful, it's easy to use and at it's measly introductory price it's a steal.
